ANAESTHESIA
The branch of medicine dealing with the relief of pain in the perioperative period (i.e., before, during, or after surgery) is known as anesthesiology. The medicine injected is called anesthesia, and the doctor who is trained in this specialty is called an anesthesiologist. Terminology may vary based on the region, but some locales may refer to anesthesiologists as anaesthetists and the medication that they deliver as anesthetics.
